Car washing is a pollution problem because metals like copper from
brakes and automobile fluids are washed off with soapy water and sent
down the street’s gutter taking more debris with it as it travels over
driveways and paved areas directly to the storm sewer system.
- Pour the bucket of soapy wash water down the sink or toilet when
you’re finished, not in the street’s gutter.
- Wash your car on the grass so soapy water soaks into the ground.
Use a hose nozzle to prevent water from
running when not in use.
- Use a commercial car wash that recycles
water.
