Vacaville recycling

Most urban stormwater pollution comes from residents, businesses, and industries through everyday activities like washing vehicles in the street, driveway, or parking lot, maintaining lawns with pesticides and fertilizers, rinsing paint brushes and concrete washout in the driveway or gutter, motor oil and transmission fluids leaking from vehicles, tossing trash and cigarette butts on the ground or pavement, and leaves and grass clippings swept into the streets or gutter.

Every day activities contribute to stormwater pollution.

When it rains pollutants that have accumulated on surfaces like driveways, streets, gutters, and parking lots are washed into the storm sewer system and carried directly into one of many storm drains located throughout Vacaville. Basically, anything dumped on the street or into the street’s gutter will make its way to the storm sewer system where it eventually flows UNTREATED to Alamo and Ulatis Creeks, before flowing to the Delta, one of our drinking water sources. Stormwater pollution is an issue that affects us all, it’s important for us to take responsibility for daily activities that can significantly impact the quality of our water that we depend on for our drinking source.
